Taking a walk from Central Dock to the Albert Dock

The Albert Dock is quite simply alive with energy and electricity, and it is within walking distance from Central Dock on Liverpool Waters.  Always something to see and do with an exquisite mix of history and culture, family activities and the potential for romance amidst the magnificent backdrop of red pillars and mesmerising water ripples. Today, the iconic architecture of the surrounding buildings and warehouses are home to its thriving art and music culture, museums as well as a myriad of shops, bars and restaurants. It is the perfect example of how the city so cleverly integrates the old with the new; traditional with contemporary.Begin exploring at the Merseyside Maritime Museum. Here you’ll learn of Liverpool’s famous maritime heritage and its relationship with the sea, from the ill-fated Titanic and the Lusitania. Also home to The International Slavery Museum, delve into the transatlantic slave trade, covering historical and contemporary slavery as well as being a hub for resources on human rights issues.On a lighter note, if modern and contemporary art is more to your appeal, TATE Liverpool is just around the corner inside the Pavillion. Host to world-class exhibitions and displays of British and International art, including photography, painting, sculpture and installations across four floors.After walking around the free museums and gallery you will need to stop for a rest and possibly a Liverpool Gin. Folk on the Dock returns to Albert Dock this August bank holiday as we celebrate 3 days of folk, roots and acoustic music from Saturday 25 – Monday 27 August 2018.Now in its third year, Folk on the Dock 2018 boasts ten stages and 200 artistes attracting music lovers and performers from all over the world. Also incorporating the Liverpool Shanty festival with music on boats around the water’s edge and the contemporary Dock Stage which is to be hosted by the legendary Janice Long. In 2018 a new venue will be added to the August Bank Holiday festival programme with a fantastic, ticketed launch event with a headline artist on Friday 24th August, in the stunning Museum of Liverpool.Also featured is the infamous ‘Pirates on the Docks’ – where you can bring the whole family to the dock to enjoy the legendary swash buckling pirate and mermaid adventure. Featuring live cannon battles and thrilling action under sail plus a whole host of family entertainment. This enchanting Dock really does have something, for everyone.
